Towards a network of SADC media trainers

A two-day seminar in Grahamstown, 8 - 9 September.

Purpose:

* to develop a network of southern African trainers, following a first meeting during the 2001 Windhoek conference in May.

* to share training insights and explore human rights coverage as a common theme in training.

Programme:

Saturday 8th: report on research on media training in the SADC; the prospects for formalising a network of trainers.

Sunday 9th:  sharing the region's top training practices and topical themes; anticipated launch of a network.

Monday 10 - 14: the fifth annual Highway Africa conference, dealing with new media and journalism on the continent. (see website: http://www.highwayafrica.org.za)

Who should attend?:

All media trainers in the SADC region are invited to attend. A limited number of sponsorships are available for non-South African delegates.

"Special seminar visa requirement": all participants, whether sponsored or not, should submit a brief outline (eg. 2 A4 pages) of a top training technique or exercise, before 4 September.  This may become an item in the programme as well as part of a compendium to be produced out of the seminar.

Who are the convenors?:

The seminar is called by a sub-committee that was set up in Windhoek, comprising: Rhodes University, Namibia Polytechnic, MISA, NSJ, Bush Radio, IAJ.
