Media Management 2000:

Exploring training needs of editors in the countries of Southern African Development Community (SADC)
by Peter du Toit and Guy Berger 1998

Editors at print and broadcast institutions in the SADC region are generally elevated to management levels because of their performance as journalists, but they often feel they have not been prepared for their new responsibilities. The NSJC and the Department of Journalism and Media Studies at Rhodes University have recognised these concerns and are collaborating in a joint project aimed at assessing the management training needs of SADC editors and designing a training programe to address these needs. This report outlines the research phase of this collaboration and details the course content that will emerge from this project.
