In
September 1997, the Consultative Conference on Relationships between the Media
Industry and Training Institutions, took place at Rhodes University under the
auspices of the South African National Editors Forum (SANEF). The conference
concentrated on print media, and a decision was taken by those broadcast media
people present to organise a similar meeting for broadcast media. An ad hoc
steering committee was formed to convene a national broadcast trainers and industry
forum.
